At Bodeen Farm we rear our bronze free-range turkeys with loving care. We believe in careful husbandry which promotes natural growth which in turn provides our customers with a superior product. Welfare of our turkeys is of utmost importance. We have happy turkeys, they roam daily in our fields and are housed in spacious pole barns on straw bedding with natural light and ventilation.

Our turkeys are bred especially for Christmas and mature over a 22 week period until they become adult birds – often twice the age of intensively produced turkeys. They have a good layer of fat under the skin, which retains moisture when cooking providing a fuller flavour and succulent texture.

Hung to Mature 

Hanging is crucial to the superior quality of our turkeys. The plucked bird is hung for seven days to bring out the flavour.  This process also helps to tenderise the meat.

What Do Our Turkeys Eat?

Our turkeys are fed on a natural cereal-based diet, rich in wheat and oats. We do not use growth-promoting additives.

Dry Plucked and Hand Finished

Processing of the turkeys is done on the farm, thus reducing stress and transport and starts in early December.  Our turkeys are dry plucked; this is a hands on process, which is slow, and labour intensive. Great care is taken and our process enables us to finish our birds to a very high standard unlike other intensive methods which can often result in damage to the skin.
